Who doesn’t love a clean home? I know I do! I love walking around and feeling proud of where I live. Which currently is a 2-bedroom rented townhome that holds 2 adults, 4 kids under 10, a cat and a dog so everything is always chaotic but the one thing I can count on is a clean and relaxed home.
I love when my husband comes home from working all day and doesn’t need to lift a finger. I feel proud and accomplished. Maybe it is old fashioned of me, but I love that feeling. Having a mess everywhere, clothes piling up, papers all over the place, toys in every room, and dishes in the sink only make you more stressed.
A home should be for relaxing not a place you hate walking into every day because it is yet another stressor.
Whether you work full time too or you are a stay at home mom, there are simple morning and night routines that will make your home be a relaxed home. I do 3 things every single day. Doing my top three really help in making sure I go to bed just a little bit more relaxed
1. Making the beds
Making the bed is one of the quickest and easiest “tidying up” moments you can do. I don’t know about you but getting into a fresh made bed at night makes me just sleep 10x better. Before Joe and I moved in together, he never made the bed. He never understood the point. Now, sometimes he is the one who will quickly make it before heading to work. He can’t believe what a difference it makes when it comes to a good night’s sleep. It is such an easy way to really make you feel relaxed, so why not do it?
According to www.sleepfoundation.org, people who reported making their bed in the morning were 19 percent more likely to get a good night’s sleep every night.
So stop reading for one minute, go make your bed and then enjoy the better sleep you get tonight!
2. Wiping the counters
I am sure you have all heard this one before. Wipe the counters before you turn in for the night and it is completely true! No one wants to wake up to drips of food left on the counter or crumbs all over. Just wipe those counters before you go to sleep and then just wipe them (if you need to) before you leave for work. It takes 30 seconds. That’s it, really and will make your home so much more relaxed!
My favorite cleaning products are ones that are clean and healthy for the home. This is why I have been using Mrs. Meyer’s all-purpose cleaner for well over a year. I love the lavender scent one (and I usually hate lavender anything!), but it is amazing and leaves your home with that nice clean scent.
I usually get all of my products from Grove Collab because all of their products are non-toxic, effective, sustainable, and cruelty-free. What more could a mom want, right?
3. Put the dishes in the dishwasher
Here is another one that I believe is an absolute must! I find it so irritating and bothersome when I wake up to a sink full of dishes and I’m not saying I have never done that, I’m human so obviously I have, but those mornings when I have done that, I can just feel the tension and headache. The kitchen to me feels so incomplete. It takes 5 minutes to load the dishwasher before bed, it is such a quick and simple thing that makes your next day such a breeze.
I usually automatically put the dishes in the dishwasher right away after using them, so I never have a full sink of dishes every night, but I always make sure that every dish that is dirty is in the dishwasher. If you feel even more up to a challenge – start the dishwasher before bed too. It is so nice having it run while I sleep so in the morning, I know that all our dishes in the house are clean and ready to use.
I love using the Seventh Generation Auto Dish Packs (yes, from Grove Collab!) because they clean the dishes so well and with the 6 of us…we need something that can really get through the dirt and the grime!
Those are my top 3 cleaning habits that I think everyone needs to start doing asap. Just incorporating those 3 will make your home feel so much more relaxed.
Side Note: I also try to vacuum every day and take out the trash as soon as it gets full. Now I know that with there being toys, papers, laundry etc. all over too you might think your home will never feel relaxed but, these 3 simple solutions can make a huge difference! Check out my daily cleaning schedule for a full amazing schedule that will keep your home clean and relaxed!
